ABOUT US

Stella Polaris was established in 1985 by Merete Klingen and Per Spildra Borg.

Stella Polaris takes us back to ancient celebrations and previous rituals of human life. In a world of jesters, storytellers, troubadours, and fakirs we want to bring back memories of our common ancestry and to trig our longing for something larger than life. Through our expressive form of theater, verging on the brink of the profane as well as the sacral, we take our audiences into a playful and caring world where magic moments between people occur. We have travelled far and beyond, and have held our performances for people for all walks of life. Streets and courtyards have been our stages just as large theaters, prisons, churches, and international festivals have housed our plays. Your private celebration, at your school, your kindergarten, your workplace or at home could be our next stage.

Today, Stella Polaris’ main group consists of eight people who work daily on shows, courses, and experienes. Our base is in Sandefjord in Vestfold, Norway, but we work on both local, national and international levels. We are a training institution with regular children and youth theater groups. We have eight professional musicians closely bound to our business and freelance artists in Norway and abroad who are engaged in different projects.

Our partners in Norway are municipalities, counties, corporate industries, university colleges, museums, festivals, private individuals, social clubs, and sports teams. Our partners abroad are festivals, embassies, and private and state institutions. Our economical contributors are Sandefjord municipality, Vestfold county government, Arts Council Norway, as well as miscellaneous funds and endowments.

Meeting Stella Polaris is to many people an experience beyond time and limits. Stella Polaris is colors, explosions, energy, feelings, and dreams. We are boundless, healing, multi-cultural, and spiritual. Stella Polaris is a state of mind, a journey on many levels. We are a vessel sailing under the sky on our way to the thanksgiving feast for animals, gods, and heroes. For life and for death. Meanwhile, we are still in motion through dance, voice, and music.

The ones who board our vessel are not coincidental. We are searching for souls who were awoken and sail back through our forefathers’ expression and way of being, and through our journey we seek to wake others we encounter on our voyage.

Our world is full of loving and wild jesters, of lost and crazy originals that history has tried to was away, but whom are alive in everyone’s subconsciousness. We have returned to travel in a technological society, in a time of rush and flurry. We have sailed for over 20 years. Healing for some, for the enjoyment and surprise of many, and as long as there is wind in our sails we navigate onwards on the sea of immortality.

Life on earth is a battle. A battle that is fought in all parts of our being, and therefore you must remember that love is there power that heals and replenishes all life on earth.

– Per Spildra Borg, artistic leader
